Firsts at the Zoo

This is a picture you will probably not ever see again...well, at least not for a very long time. Though we have been to the zoo many times, this was a trip of many firsts.
1. We have fed the goats inside the barn.
2. We spent 45 minutes in the stinky barn.
3. I read every plaque in the barn about the poultry industry of SC.
4. We looked at the mice, snake, and worm exhibits in the barn multiple times...each time hoping to actually see a worm.
5. We experienced the sight, smell, and sound of the cow more than I ever cared to. (in the barn)
Why so much time in the barn, you may ask, when there are so many other more exciting and less stinky things to see at the zoo?? Well, our extended tour of the farm animals was due to another first at the zoo - a gorilla on the loose!! Yes, one of the gorillas escaped from their 1 acre lot on a piece of bamboo no thicker than a dime! Apparently, some of the visitors saw him and started screaming. One of the concession stand workers heard screaming and came running. The gorilla charged at him, but the worker had the sense to curl up into a ball. The gorilla batted him around for a few minutes and then went back into his exhibit on his own. So, though he was only out and about for about 5 minutes, it took 40 minutes to get the two gorillas into an enclosed area. Fortunately, the worker sustained only a few scrapes and bruises. Thankfully the park had been open less than 30 minutes when this happened, so it wasn't very crowded...it really could have been a much worse situation. Although after 45 minutes in the stinky barn with two fussy little ones, I was wishing we could have been locked down in the aquarium - air conditioned, lots to see, and no manuer!



Saturday we had a staff get together at someone's lake house. Josiah spent nearly the entire evening in/near the water. He had a blast!

I put Bella in the Bumbo for the first time yesterday. She still needs a little support, but it's great neck exercise!
